The girls have made a new friend, K. K. wanted to go to the ice cream social that the library was having today to celebrate the fact that they are finally open on FRIDAYS! Can you believe it?!?! Our lil’ library open on Fridays?!?!?! I just have to say a huge thank you to the other hs moms that called the Mayor with me.
I would also like to give a HUGE thank you to Mayor ‘Chip’ Thompson! He gets a very high thumbs up from me! I am so proud that he came through for the library, unlike so many other city officials. It means a lot to me as a homeschooling mom to now have the library open 6 days a week! I was truly hoping he could be at the social but his grandchild is turning 2 and he was heading out of town for that celebration, so I completley understand! Happy Birthday!!!!
The girls were thrilled with their ice cream. They also believe that the homeschooling moms had nothing to do with the decision to open the libraries on Fridays. They told me a secret today… Would you like me to share?
They said that their letters to Mayor Thompson were very stern and persuasive, their words not mine, and that is why he did it. He knew how much they loved to read and surely it was their letters and the tale they told about how uneducated our city would be without the libraries being open on Friday! Hardy har har! I have never laughed so hard….
Anywho, I got off track. K. slowed us down since she was filthy. Her family has no water and she only had one set of clothes. She is a size bigger than the girls, so I only had one pair of pants that fit her and they were ‘baggy’ but nothing else would fit. I felt so badly for her. She showered here while I washed her clothes and I put her in the one set I had that fit but was baggy. I hope we gave her a little ray of sunshine today. I truly do. We also took her out to eat since she had complained of not eating today.
Just when you think things in your life couldn’t be any worse, you meet someone who has it harder than you. I fully believe that this girl found us today because of what we are going through. No cable at the house is hard, but we have food and we have a house. So that is settled. LOL The little boy from down the street that I caught picking my blackberries today, his dad died at the beginning of June in a tragic car wreck. Oh, my…. I didn’t know until after I scolded him for not asking first.
Life truly sucks, but sometimes it can be awesome.
I will continue with what we are going through in a different post. Anywho, the girls are going to try to meet the Mayor to thank him in person for the library’s additional budget and to give him a picture of the celebration with a letter written in their best hand writing framed! LOL
