I'm with you!! We have started what we can to cut back. Just got our bikes fixed up so that we can ride when possible. As you said, not every trip will be possible (groceries) but alot of our trips in the car could just as well have been done by bike, walking or even a scooter. And, it is good quality time with the family which certainly doesn't hurt! I feel as long as people continue to pay these ridiculous prices, there will be no end in sight. It wouldn't be so bad if the fuel companies werent posting 123 BILLION dollars profit in THREE MONTHS!!! And the rest of us out here are struggling just to keep food on the table for our families, and some are even losing jobs because employers are seeing less profits. So, I too say, if there is something you can do to NOT drive your car even a little bit, do it! Everyone making a little effort will be much more effective in the long run than a few people making big efforts. Hang in there, Good for you!!

Obviously I didn't mean absolutely everyone could. There are exceptions to everything. My big deal is that it is ridiculous that people don't do SOMETHING. I understand you have injuries preventing bike riding, but you don't go driving all the time either. KWIM? I know people that will crank up their cars ten times a day just to drive five minutes. I am going off on one of my tangents and saying people should really try this IF they can. The gas prices are ridiculous and NOTHING is going to change UNLESS people ban together.

Not buying gas for a week won't make a difference because at the end of that week, they are buying additional gas to make up for what they didn't buy. HOWEVER, if just ONE family cuts their gas usage down just ONE day a week, it makes an impact. It is that simple. :)

That said, we have only had one hiss booer. And, I told the girls he was just jealous because he cannot get out and ride a bike and obviously isn't as creative as we are. I am tired of people telling us to be safe. PEOPLE RIDE BIKES EVERY DAY! The girls are well trained on their bicycles. This isn't the first time they have ridden. They know hand signals and safety precautions. We bike around the neighborhood quite a bit. I am sorry. I will say it again "I AM PROUD OF MY GIRLS!" and myself. We did something most 'knew' we couldn't. :)

I aplaud your efforts. You are saving money and the enviroment too. But, you posed the question "What's stopping you?" Well, being 62 years old, having had to back surgeries and a serious illness in the past and also, not having a bike. I just hope you will be safe out there. The people in cars like to harrass the ones on the bikes. I'm sure you have seen a lot of that out there already.
